The Lonesome Lake Hut, located in Franconia Notch State Park in New Hampshire is an adventurous destination. Our trip planned March 2-3 will begin with a snowshoe hike up the 1.6 mile backcountry trail across the frozen Lonesome Lake to our accommodations in the Lonesome Lake Hut, located at an elevation of 2,760 feet. From this basecamp, you cannot miss the view of New Hampshire's majestic White Mountains. The hut is used year-round for fellow nature admirers to hike the nearby 4,000 foot peaks, such as Cannon Mountain, the Kinsman Ridge, as well as miles of Appalachian Trail beyond. Our wintery, maybe even, treacherous, climb will be worth it to see what the Lonesome Lake Hut experience has to offer. From a wood stove-heated main gathering/dining cabin, to being able to cook and share food with everyone, to winter sledding, playing card and board games, our scout event will be engaging. . There is an additional benefit of getting to meet fellow winter hikers who share the hut, experiencing this challenging environment on the same weekend. So come to Lonesome Lake Hut Hike prepared to carry your pack, drag sleds of equipment, gear and supplies, snowshoe uphill, sled, build an igloo in the snow and take in breathtaking views. Some of the more experienced Scouts may hike the 2.3 mile trek to the summit of Cannon Mountain. Because you will be outdoors, and the sleeping spaces are not heated, please “be prepared”as our motto states, and check this winter gear guide: https://www.outdoors.org/trip-ideas-tips-resources/gear-advice/winter-gear-guide Also, Mr. Heisler put together our own Troop 103 essential winter camping list: Equipment required:
