Michael A. Vecchi, Sr. retired Scoutmaster Emeritus, Troop 103 Burlington, passed away on Monday morning, July 11, 2016. Mike was born and educated in Roxbury. At the age of 17 he joined the United States Army serving his country. Mike was a Paratrooper and a member of the elite 82nd Airborne Division which specialized in parachute assault operations into denied areas. He achieved the rank of SP-3 (T) and was the recipient of the Parachute Badge. When Mike’s three sons joined the Scouts as children, Mike became involved as well. The Scouts would become an important part of his life spanning over 40 years. A registered Scouter since 1972, Mike is the longest tenured Scoutmaster of Troop 103 and has also held positions of Cubmaster of Pack 105, Charter Organization Rep., District Commissioner, and National Scout Jamboree Scoutmaster. Mike has received many awards in scouting including the distinguished Silver Beaver Award, presented to him for the impact he made on the lives of the youth in Troop 103 throughout the years and, in 2013, he received the Norman A. Norton Award for his decades of service to the scouting Community and District Levels. Mike will be remembered as a man who made a difference in all the lives he touched. Mike was the beloved husband of 56 years of Hazel (Quigley). He is survived by 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
